1. About these terms

1.1 These terms are an agreement between you and PTPal Ltd ("Pal", "we", "us"), a company registered in England and Wales (company number 15817072), registered office 21 Dorchester Place, Kenton Bank Foot, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE13 8BE. They cover:

  • the Pal app;
  • Pal on WhatsApp;
  • pal.health;
  • everything else we provide as part of Pal (together, "Pal").

1.2 If you download Pal from the Apple App Store, these terms are the end-user licence agreement (EULA) for the app, and section 18 also applies. If you download it from Google Play, section 19 also applies.

1.3 Our Privacy Policy (pal.health/privacy-policy) explains how we use your personal data. Please read it too.

1.4 By creating an account or using Pal, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use Pal.

2. In short

  • Pal is a wellbeing coach for food and training. It isn't a doctor and doesn't give medical advice.
  • Pal is for people aged 18 and over.
  • Pal's coaching is generated by AI. It can be wrong, so use your judgement.
  • Pals lets you share your progress with people you choose. Be kind, and don't share what isn't yours to share.
  • Beast Mode is optional, sweary and lasts one day.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel them in your App Store or Google Play settings.
  • Nothing in these terms takes away your legal rights as a consumer.

3. Who can use Pal

3.1 You must be 18 or over to use Pal.

3.2 Pal is designed for people in the United Kingdom. If you use it elsewhere, you're responsible for following local laws.

3.3 Please don't use Pal if a doctor has told you not to diet or change your exercise, or if section 4 says it isn't right for you.

3.4 Your account is for you alone. You sign in with Apple or Google, so keep that account secure. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your Pal account.

4. Pal is a coach, not a doctor

4.1 Pal gives general wellbeing guidance about food, activity, sleep and habits. It doesn't diagnose, treat or prevent any illness. It isn't a medical device, and it doesn't replace your GP, a dietitian, a physiotherapist or any other health professional.

4.2 Pal's calorie and protein targets come from a standard formula and are kept within safe limits. They're still estimates. Talk to your GP or another qualified professional before you make big changes to what you eat or how you train, especially if you:

  • take a GLP-1 or other weight-loss medicine;
  • are pregnant or breastfeeding;
  • have, or have had, an eating disorder;
  • have a condition your GP manages (for example diabetes, heart, kidney or liver disease);
  • have an injury, or pain that is getting worse.

4.3 Pal never advises on medicine doses. Follow the advice of whoever prescribed your medicine.

4.4 In an emergency, call 999. For urgent medical help, call NHS 111. If you're struggling or thinking about harming yourself, call Samaritans free on 116 123, at any time. Pal isn't an emergency or crisis service and isn't monitored in real time. For eating disorder support, contact Beat (beateatingdisorders.org.uk).

4.5 Stop any exercise that causes pain, dizziness or shortness of breath, and get medical advice.

5. Coaching by AI

5.1 Pal's replies, plans, tips, meal analyses and voice are produced by AI systems run by us and our providers (listed in the Privacy Policy). No person reviews them before you see them.

5.2 AI can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. It can misunderstand speech or estimate a meal badly. Please check anything important, especially nutrition values, allergens and exercise instructions. If something looks wrong, tell Pal, or give the reply a thumbs down.

5.3 Don't rely on Pal for anything where a mistake could seriously harm you, including allergies. Always read food labels yourself.

6. Voice notes, calls and WhatsApp

6.1 When you send a voice note or call Pal, you agree to us processing your voice as described in the Privacy Policy. Don't record other people without their permission.

6.2 Pal on WhatsApp is optional. WhatsApp's own terms apply to your use of WhatsApp. Your mobile provider may charge for data.

6.3 Pal may send you check-ins and notifications. You can pause WhatsApp check-ins (reply "pause check-ins"), turn off notifications in your phone's settings, or unlink WhatsApp in the app.

7. Pals

7.1 What Pals is. Pals connects you one-to-one with people you choose (up to ten), so you can see each other's progress, share wins, send cheers and nudges, and get a weekly recap. For each Pal, you choose what they see ("Wins only" or "Open book"). The Privacy Policy explains exactly what each level shows. Your chats with Pal and your photos are never shared with Pals.

7.2 Invites. Only invite people you know who would want to hear from you. Don't use Pals to send spam. Invite links and codes last 14 days.

7.3 Professionals. If you connect with a personal trainer, coach or other professional, that relationship is between you and them. We don't check professionals' qualifications or insurance, and we're not responsible for their advice.

7.4 How to behave. In cheers, nudges and messages, you must not:

  • bully, harass, threaten or shame anyone, including about their body, weight or food;
  • send sexual content, hate speech, or anything illegal;
  • encourage someone to restrict food in an unsafe way, or to self-harm;
  • pretend to be someone else;
  • share someone else's personal or health information without their permission;
  • advertise, sell or promote anything.

7.5 Mute, remove and report. You can mute or remove any Pal at any time. To report a message, open its options and tap Report. We'll review reports, and we may remove content, limit features, or suspend or close accounts that break these rules (section 13).

7.6 Complaints about content or our decisions. If you want to complain about something on Pal, or about a decision we made after a report (including one about your own account), email hello@pal.health. We'll acknowledge it within 14 days and tell you what we've decided and why.

7.7 Other users' content is theirs, not ours, and we don't check it before it's sent. We aren't responsible for it, but we will act on reports.

8. Invite rewards

8.1 When someone becomes your Pal by joining Pal through your invite link or code (a "new Pal"):

  • the new Pal gets 7 days of full access. Each person can only receive this once, whoever invited them;
  • you get 7 days of full access for each new Pal who joins through you, up to a maximum of 10 rewards (70 days). You only get this if you aren't a paying subscriber (that is, if you have no active paid subscription and no lifetime access) when they join.

8.2 Free days are added on top of any free trial or reward you already have, and are applied automatically. They aren't a subscription, and they don't renew. When they end, you go back to the free version unless you subscribe.

8.3 Removing a Pal and connecting again, or connecting with someone who is already your Pal, doesn't earn another reward.

8.4 Rewards have no cash value and can't be transferred or exchanged. We may cancel rewards gained through fake accounts, automated sign-ups or other abuse.

8.5 We may change or end the invite reward at any time for new invites, but rewards already earned will still be applied.

9. Subscriptions, free trials and cancelling

9.1 Plans. Some features need a subscription:

  • Pal annual: £49.99 a year;
  • Pal monthly: £9.99 a month.

9.1a Founding offer. The Pal Founding annual plan costs £24.99 a year:

  • it's available for new annual subscriptions started from 7 October to 5 November 2026 (23:59 UK time);
  • it renews at £24.99 a year for as long as your subscription continues without a break. If you cancel and it lapses, or you switch to another plan, a later subscription is at the price on offer at that time;
  • it includes a 7-day free trial for eligible new subscribers (see 9.2).

Prices include VAT and are shown in the app before you buy. They may vary by country.

9.2 Free trial. Eligible new subscribers get a 7-day free trial on the annual plan and the Founding annual plan. The monthly plan has no free trial. Apple and Google decide who is eligible (for example, they normally allow one free trial per person). Unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, your subscription starts automatically and you'll be charged.

9.3 Automatic renewal. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period (a month or a year), at the then-current price, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase and at each renewal.

9.4 Cancelling.

  • iPhone: Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions > Pal.
  • Android: Google Play > Payments and subscriptions > Subscriptions > Pal.

You keep access until the end of the period you've paid for. Deleting the app or your Pal account doesn't cancel your subscription.

9.5 Refunds. Apple and Google handle payments and refunds under their own policies:

  • reportaproblem.apple.com;
  • Google Play's refund page.

This doesn't affect your legal rights.

9.6 Your right to cancel. By law you normally have 14 days to cancel a purchase of digital content. When you start a paid subscription, you ask us to give you access straight away, and you agree that you lose the right to cancel once that access starts, except as the law allows. Your rights if Pal is faulty (section 16) aren't affected.

9.7 Price changes. If the price of your subscription goes up, we'll tell you in advance, and Apple or Google will ask for your agreement where their rules require it. You can cancel before the new price applies.

10. Beast Mode

10.1 Beast Mode is an optional coaching style. Pal becomes a loud, no-excuses drill sergeant, and it swears, a lot. It's meant to be funny and motivating. It's off unless you switch it on and confirm.

10.2 Beast Mode lasts until midnight on the day you switch it on (your local time), then Pal goes back to your previous style on its own. You can switch it off sooner at any time from the Beast Mode banner.

10.3 Beast Mode is only ever tough on effort. It's designed never to comment on your body, weight or looks, never to encourage restriction, and never to give unsafe advice. It isn't available if you've told us you:

  • take GLP-1 or other weight-loss medication;
  • are pregnant or breastfeeding;
  • have a condition your GP manages;
  • have, or have had, an eating disorder;

and Pal won't offer it if you've mentioned low mood. If any of these apply, please don't try to get around them.

10.4 Because it's generated by AI, Beast Mode may occasionally say something you find offensive or that misses the mark. If it does, switch it off, and tell us with a thumbs down. If you share a Beast Mode message or "roast" card, make sure the people you share it with are happy to see strong language.

10.5 Messages sent while Beast Mode is on aren't added to Pal's long-term memory.

11. Your content

11.1 You own what you put into Pal: your messages, voice notes, photos, logs, and what you send your Pals ("your content").

11.2 You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use your content only to provide Pal to you and to the people you choose to share it with. That covers storing it, processing it with our providers, showing it to your Pals in line with your sharing settings, and keeping Pal safe and working. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, apart from copies we must keep by law, or that are still in backups for a short time.

11.3 We won't use your content in marketing, or show it publicly, without asking you first. We don't use it to train AI models.

11.4 Share cards (for example a weekly recap or a Beast Mode roast) are made for you to share where you like. Only include what you're happy for others to see.

11.5 You're responsible for having the right to share what you send, and for making sure it doesn't break these terms.

12. Using Pal properly

You must not:

  • break the law using Pal, or use it to harm anyone;
  • try to get into accounts or systems that aren't yours, or interfere with how Pal works (for example by overloading it, or by reverse engineering the app, except as the law allows);
  • use bots, scripts or fake accounts, including to claim invite rewards;
  • try to make Pal produce harmful, illegal or dangerous content, or get around its safety features;
  • copy, resell or commercially exploit Pal or its content;
  • break the rules of Pal's community WhatsApp group, if you join it. The same standards as section 7.4 apply there, and the group admins may remove anyone.

13. Suspending or closing accounts

13.1 You can delete your account at any time in the app (You > Settings > Delete account) or at pal.health/delete-account. Your account is deactivated straight away and permanently deleted after 30 days, unless you sign back in before then (Privacy Policy, section 11). Deleting your account doesn't cancel a subscription: cancel it as described in 9.4.

13.2 We may suspend or close your account, or limit features (for example Pals), if:

  • you seriously or repeatedly break these terms;
  • we need to, to protect you, other users or Pal;
  • the law requires it.

Where it's reasonable, we'll tell you why first and give you a chance to put things right. If we close your account without good reason, we'll refund the unused part of any subscription you paid us for directly. Purchases made through the App Store or Google Play are refunded by Apple or Google under their policies, and we'll help you ask them.

14. Changes to Pal and to these terms

14.1 We keep improving Pal. We may add, change or remove features. If a change significantly reduces what you've paid for, we'll tell you, and you can cancel and get a refund for the unused part, where the law gives you that right.

14.2 We may update these terms, for example for new features or legal requirements. If a change matters, we'll tell you in the app or by email at least 14 days before it takes effect. If you don't agree, you can stop using Pal and delete your account before the change applies. Continuing to use Pal afterwards means you accept the new terms.

14.3 Some features may be labelled beta or preview. They may change or be withdrawn.

15. Our app and brand

Pal, its software, design, content, the Pal name and logo belong to us or our licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable licence to use the Pal app on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, under these terms and the rules of the store you downloaded it from.

16. Our responsibility to you

16.1 What we're responsible for. We provide Pal with reasonable care and skill. We're responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms, or of our failing to use reasonable care and skill. Loss is foreseeable if it was obvious it would happen, or if both of us knew it might happen when you agreed to these terms.

16.2 Your consumer rights. If you're a consumer, you have legal rights about digital content and services that are faulty, not as described, or not provided with reasonable care and skill. For example, you may be entitled to a repair, a replacement, or some or all of your money back. Nothing in these terms affects those rights. Citizens Advice can tell you more.

16.3 What we don't exclude. We don't exclude or limit our liability for:

  • death or personal injury caused by our negligence;
  • fraud;
  • anything else the law doesn't allow us to exclude or limit.

16.4 What we're not responsible for.

  • Not medical outcomes. Pal is a wellbeing service (section 4). We're not responsible for decisions you make about your health without professional advice, where we've provided Pal with reasonable care and skill.
  • Not business losses. Pal is for personal use. We're not responsible for loss of profit, business or business opportunity.
  • Not other people or services. We're not responsible for things your Pals or other users do or send, or for services we don't control (for example WhatsApp, Apple Health, Health Connect, your phone or your connection), except where we've been at fault.
  • Not events outside our control. If something outside our reasonable control stops Pal working (for example an outage at a provider), we'll tell you, and do what we reasonably can to limit the effect.

16.5 Limit. Apart from section 16.3, our total liability to you for everything arising from Pal is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid for Pal in the 12 months before the claim and (b) £100.

16.6 Pal is provided free of charge to some users. If that's you, section 16 still applies, but the rules for paid digital content may not.

17. Not used

This section is intentionally blank, so that later section numbers stay the same.

18. Apple App Store terms

If you downloaded Pal from the Apple App Store:

18.1 These terms are between you and PTPal Ltd only, not Apple. We, not Apple, are solely responsible for Pal and its content.

18.2 Your licence to use Pal is limited to using it on Apple-branded products you own or control, as allowed by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions. Pal may also be used by other accounts associated with you through Family Sharing, where available.

18.3 Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Pal. Contact us for support (section 21).

18.4 If Pal fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any) for Pal. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation for Pal. Any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses caused by any failure to conform to a warranty are our responsibility, to the extent the law and these terms make them so.

18.5 We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims by you or any third party relating to Pal, or to your possession or use of it. That includes product liability claims, claims that Pal fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and claims under consumer protection, privacy or similar laws.

18.6 If a third party claims that Pal, or your possession and use of it, infringes their intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are solely responsible for investigating, defending, settling and discharging that claim.

18.7 You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US Government embargo, or designated as a "terrorist supporting" country, and that you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

18.8 Our name, address and contact details are in sections 1 and 21. Please send any questions, complaints or claims about Pal to us.

18.9 You must comply with any third-party terms that apply when using Pal (for example your mobile data agreement).

18.10 Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms. Once you accept them, Apple has the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.

19. Google Play

If you downloaded Pal from Google Play, Google Play's Terms of Service also apply to your purchase and download. Google isn't responsible for Pal. Subscriptions bought on Google Play are managed and refunded under Google Play's policies.

20. Law, courts and complaints

20.1 These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.

20.2 If you live in the EU, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of the country where you live.

20.3 If you have a problem, please contact us first at hello@pal.health. We'll try to sort it out quickly and fairly.

21. Contact us

  • Help and support: WhatsApp support from the app (You > Help), or hello@pal.health
  • Privacy: hello@pal.health
  • Post: PTPal Ltd, 21 Dorchester Place, Kenton Bank Foot, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE13 8BE

22. General

22.1 If a court decides that part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.

22.2 If we don't enforce a right straight away, we can still enforce it later.

22.3 We may transfer this agreement to another organisation, for example if Pal is sold. We'll tell you, and your rights won't be reduced. You may not transfer your account to anyone else.

22.4 Apart from Apple (section 18.10), no one else has rights under these terms.
